Pet Emergencies
If your pet is experiencing a true emergency, take them to the closest veterinary facility right away. During Centerville Animal Hospital's regular business hours, that closest facility may be Centerville. When appropriate, our team will evaluate and stabilize emergency patients. Once a patient is stable, we may transfer them to the most appropriate emergency or specialty facility for continued care.
Please note that Centerville Animal Hospital is not a dedicated 24-hour emergency hospital. Outside of our regular business hours, one of the emergency facilities listed below will be best able to help your pet.
Is It Urgent, or a True Emergency?
Knowing the difference can help you decide where to go and how quickly you need to act.
An urgent medical concern needs prompt attention but is not immediately life-threatening. Examples include mild but persistent vomiting or diarrhea, a minor limp, a small wound, or an ear or eye irritation. These often can wait for a same-day or next-available appointment with your regular veterinarian.
A true emergency is a situation that is immediately life-threatening and cannot wait. Examples include difficulty breathing, severe or uncontrolled bleeding, collapse or loss of consciousness, repeated seizures, suspected poisoning, inability to urinate, or trauma such as being hit by a car. In these cases, seek care immediately at the closest available facility.
